House Renovations

We work with existing houses to improve the way they function, feel and perform, from the careful reorganisation of individual rooms to comprehensive refurbishment. Each project begins with an understanding of the building, its character and the changing needs of the people who live there.

Our work includes traditional townhouses, mews properties, villas and rural homes. We look for opportunities to make better use of existing spaces, improve natural light and circulation, and introduce considered changes that allow houses to support contemporary life while retaining their distinctive qualities.

Approach

Existing houses often contain layers of alteration, with opportunities and constraints that are not immediately apparent. We begin by understanding how a building has been put together and changed over time, exploring how its rooms, circulation and relationship to the outside might be improved.

We favour considered interventions that make a house work better as a whole. Repair and thermal upgrades are developed alongside the architectural work, with careful attention to insulation, airtightness, ventilation and moisture management. Our aim is to create comfortable, durable homes while making the most of the buildings already there.

How We Work

We provide architectural services from initial surveys and feasibility studies through concept design, planning permission, listed building consent where required, building warrant and technical design, with construction-stage services where commissioned.

Renovations often involve unforeseen conditions and complex existing fabric. We work closely with clients, engineers, cost consultants and specialist contractors to develop coordinated proposals, establish priorities and balance architectural ambition with practical considerations of cost, programme and construction.
