Sutherland Masterplan
A masterplan for the sensitive renewal of a rural farmstead in Sutherland.
The project explores the adaptation of a group of traditional agricultural buildings alongside the introduction of a small number of new rural homes. The masterplan considers the site as a whole, drawing on the existing arrangement of buildings and their relationship to the surrounding landscape.
The proposals take their cues from traditional patterns of rural settlement, with simple building forms arranged along the established lane. New development is carefully positioned to respond to the site's topography, orientation and views, while maintaining the character of the existing farmstead.
A restrained landscape approach brings together planting, boundaries and shared spaces, creating a coherent framework for the gradual adaptation and development of the site.
